Current Initiatives
Our "Healthy Neighborhoods" Initiative Project will help achieve healthy safe, caring and just Corridor neighborhoods for all of us to work and live. Our Healthy Neighborhoods Initiative will contribute to the overall success of our City because a healthy neighborhood is one that contributes to our economy through consumerism and makes wise and ethical investments through community investing, socially responsible investing, and shareholder activism. This particular initiative provides quality and affordable housing for the underserved markets within the surrounding low-wealth community, Corridor beautification, entrepreneurship opportunities and the creation of new jobs provided via EMSDC's housing/repairs projects. The timing of this project is also an excellent fit with the new $12 million Streetscape project that was approved in 2000 by voters in the City of Greensboro and is now near completion. With this grant and other sources of funding, we anticipate that this project will enable the corridor to make significant progress toward achieving self-sufficiency and recognize a tremendously positive economic impact.
